Developmental Editing

Choosing to write a book is a challenging decision and daunting task. I applaud all who undertake this awesome task. I highly suggest that independent writers work with a developmental editor to make your book desirable to publishers. I can help every step of the way.

As a DE, I prefer to get involved with a project sooner rather than later. However, I also consult on finished manuscripts to address any problems or concerns before publication.

My developmental process:

  • We start by building a solid, working outline that helps authors develop their chapters. I assist with reviewing outlines for learning scaffolding (for nonfiction pieces), story progression (fiction), and sensible organization.
  • Next, we build chapters that have an interesting opening, middle, and conclusion. Let’s include logical learning scenarios, hardworking figures (if included in your work), and make your book highly enjoyable.
  • Revisions involve reexamination of current content as well as upcoming chapters. Are the chapters progressing and teaching the topic well? Is the writing on the correct level? Does it make sense? Is it enjoyable?
  • Finally we prepare the manuscript for copyediting. Once copyedited and proofread, we prepare it for publishing and add the last details (front matter, index, etc.).

I can guide you every step of the way.  I promise to be a thorough and consistent, yet humane editor, and will treat your project as if it were my own.
